I made this single with Rey Reel at Hits & History Studio in North Hollywood, in the fall of 2021. Things had quieted down a bit with my mom’s mental health, but my own was not great at the time and I had been dealing with a bout of depression, having a lot of trouble getting up in the morning or really being excited about anything. I was trying to change some of my habits at the time because they often affect my mental health a lot, which is why I said the “I been drinking lots of water, I been meditating” line. Still, the song addresses how I (and many of us) tend to rely on things like alcohol, weed, and materialism to numb myself, which is a consistent theme of mine. The Blues Clues reference came about very naturally and was never intended to be the theme or title of the record (I titled the original demo “Blu”) but my girlfriend loved the song and suggested a Blues Clues themed video as Steve had just gone viral online not long after I cut the track, an idea I loved. Cut to me in a striped polo in front of a green screen a month or 2 later lol.
